The 1971 Plymouth HEMI Cuda Convertible was one of the last of its kind, built as the muscle car era neared its end. It is one of 12 built for the 1971 model year and among the five examples earmarked for non-U.S. destinations. Designed by John E. Herlitz and built on the new E-body platform, the 1971 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda featured a wider body and a lower stance than its second-generation predecessor.
Among the many reasons why this HEMI is exceptional is the factory A833 four-speed manual transmission paired with a Hurst Pistol Grip shifter and, under the hood, a savage HEMI engine. Only three came equipped with this option. The Winchester Gray 'Cuda features a black Shaker scoop, a V3X option code black top, black billboard graphics, and Rallye wheels wrapped in F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.

With its classic shape, tire-shredding American power, limited production and huge popularity a 1970 Hemi ‘Cuda became a holy grail for Mopar enthusiasts! In 1970 Plymouth offered a wide selection of V8 engines, but the undoubted king was the 426 HEMI beast!
In our new Street Machine series, we've pulled out all the stops. Lift off the hood and you'll discover the wired and plumbed 426 HEMI engine with complete compartment details. We've raked the stance and outfitted the model with Vintage Centerline wheels and tires and added traction bars. Opening doors to reveal the detailed interior with folding front easts. Top it off with a fully custom paint job and so much more!

"Ohio" George Montgomery was one of the first superstars in NHRA Drag Racing history. Montgomery won the prestigious U.S. Nationals four times (1959, 1960, 1963, and 1969) and set numerous speed and e.t. records in several cars during his illustrious driving career. He was a pioneer, innovator, and mechanical genius who often fabricated his own parts, starting as far back as the 1950s.
In 1966, "Ohio George" Montgomery joined the Ford Racing team and helped develop and test the new 427ci SOHC Hemi engine. In 1967, Ford convinced him to switch to a Mustang body that could be found in their dealerships—as the saying goes, "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday." Montgomery agreed, and parked the 1933 Willys in favor of the more aerodynamic 1967 Mustang body, which had a 6-71-blown 427ci SOHC Ford engine between the framerails. The 'Stang set five NHRA national records and won Super Eliminator at the 1969 Spring Nationals in Dallas.
Two years later, Montgomery debuted the Mr. Gasket Gasser at the 1969 U.S. Nationals. This was a one-off 1969 Mustang Mach 1 handcrafted fiberglass body from the Ford Drag Racing program and was powered by a twin-turbocharged Boss 429 engine. The car set numerous speed and e.t. records and won Super Eliminator at the 1969 U.S. Nationals, as well as victories at the 1973 and 1974 Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida.

The Motown Missile itself is a testament to Chrysler’s ambition. Built as a factory test bed by some of the best engineers, including the famous Tom Hoover, it was used to trial new concepts before passing them down to legendary racers like Sox & Martin. The car’s original purpose was clear, break new ground, and push what was technically possible.
One aspect of the Motown Missile that separated it from all other Pro Stock cars at the time was the connection it had with the Chrysler NASA Rocket Development Division (located in Huntsville, AL) that incorporated all kinds of aerospace technology, in the way of exotic testing equipment and DAQ (data acquisition) for when the car was traveling down the race track.
While it was a full-on racecar, it actually doubled as a test and development vehicle. In 1971 driver Don Carlton joined the team and drove the Motown Missile in the '71 Grand nationals and set an all-time low et at 9.48 and 146.10 mph.

Dick Smothers, of the Tom and Dick Smothers comedy team, was the driving force behind their hit television series and their racing ventures. Willard Wright was credited with helping put Dick behind the wheel of an Oldsmobile in 1968, prior to the brothers going on to compete with this 350-powered SS/F Cutlass. Hurst’s Shifty Doctor, Jack Watson, helped prepare the Smothers’ car. With a cameraman and equipment on board, Dick netted a 12.99 on his third pass in the car.
George Berejik received a call from the Smothers brothers’ lawyer prior to the 1971 NHRA Nationals, telling him that he had been dropped by the Smothers and that the Smothers name and logo had to come off the car. The Berejik team went to Indy and paid $600 to have the name and logo removed. They finally got to the gates, where the Smothers were waiting and told them that the lawyer was misinformed and to get the lettering back on the car. Berejik then spent $700 to have the name repainted! The Smothers deal lasted until the end of the 1971 season, when Oldsmobile pulled the plug. Loyed “Woody” Woodland, seen here running F/SA at Maple Grove, banged off 11.60s on a 12.20 F/S record. . Note: Your Credit Card will not be charged until the item is ready to ship! .
