ACME is thrilled to present pics of the final tooling sample of our 1:18 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad! We are expecting the first decorated sample in the next 3 - 4 weeks and production will begin after that sample is approved. If all goes well, we hope to have production completed and shipped to us sometime in 2024
When Chevy’s line of cars was redesigned in 1955, they added two new editions: the upscale Bel Air model and the Bel Air Nomad, a 2-door sport wagon. The latter was based in part on a 1954 Corvette show car that had many of the styling cues that made it into the production Nomad which caused a lot of buzz! From the cowl forward, the wagon was all Bel Air. But from the windshield back, it had its own body that shared no sheet metal with other Chevy station wagons. Only 8,386 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomads were produced.
The Chevrolet Nomad could carry up to 6 people, or make some muscle car noises. Priced at $2,571 in 1955, the Nomad came with a 265 cubic-inch V8 as standard equipment. The top-of-the-line engine in 1955 for the Nomad was a Chevy small block with a four-barrel carb and dual exhausts. This setup was good for a maximum of 180 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Note: There may be some minor changes that may occur before final production.

There’s little doubt that the 1971 Hemi 'Cuda is the Holy Grail of muscle cars! It’s the one muscle car that stands out for being the first American muscle car to demand north of the million dollar mark at auction (in 2014). But the status of the Hemi Cuda is not new; it has long been lusted for as a legendary muscle car with sinister looks and the power to back it up.
First, yes, it's In Violet paint (commonly referred to as Plum Crazy), that wild and eye-grabbing '70s pop-culture hue that practically defined Mopar performance machinery. Both models have white seating and door panels with black dashboard and carpet. Under the hood you'll find the 383 Big Block Wedge powerplant which was designed to be a great combination of thrift and performance. Few Detroit muscle machines had the same impact as the 1971 Cuda with lightning acceleration, flamboyant paint and styling.

Make no mistake, 1970 Hemi ‘Cudas are rare. Plymouth made just 652 Hardtops total to be exact.
Most customers had one thing in mind: Going really, really fast in a straight line, either from one stoplight to the next or perhaps 1320 feet at a time. Only 18 people in 1970 wanted their Hemi ‘Cuda to put a little more wind in their hair. By the late 1970s Hemi convertibles were roughly $10,000 cars. In the mid-1980s a few sold in the $25,000 range. By 1990 they had just tipped into six-figure territory. And at the beginning of the 2000's a few traded in the half million dollar range. Serious money to be sure.

"Akron" Arlen Vanke was a working-man's drag racer. Competing--and winning--in the Stock, Super Stock and Pro Stock classes, he set records with Pontiacs and, later, Plymouths, earning multiple Stock Eliminator titles with both marques. Through it all, he built the cars in a backyard garage and often drove his open ramp truck to the track and back. In fact, Chrysler hired Vanke to test their performance technology. In 1967, Arlen modified the RO23 Hemi intake manifold for racing. "NHRA rules allowed racers to modify the intake manifold, so I made the stock manifold into a plenum chamber manifold, " he said.
.
Vanke's Hemi, along with the Sox & Martin team, gave Mopars so many victories in the late '60s that they dominated the scene in Super Stocks. In 1968, he built this incredible HEMI Cuda that we are so proud to offer. He won the Nationals in August at Indy running SS/B with his 1968 Plymouth Hemi Cuda. He then reset the record again with a 10.61 at 140 miles per hour in the Cuda in SS/A at the Winter Nationals in Pomona, California.

.The story is told of George Manessis, a Northern California NHRA Super Stock racer who wanted more. With help from Chrysler and San Francisco's Sunset Dodge, a '64 Dodge "Ramcharger" 330 sedan was ordered with the goal of competing and dominating in SS/A--a hotly contested class where the Max Wedge Mopars dominated.
Manessis would line up against the SS/A drag racing legends--names including the other Mopar-sponsored Northern California Max Wedge of Tommy Grove in the Melrose Missile sponsored by Melrose Motors of Oakland, California. Manessis would mark his years in the Sunset Dodge entry, which was later re-lettered in Van Ness Dodge nomenclature, with a fair degree of success, including an event win at the Northern California SS/A Championship. In addition to the quickest e.t. George ever made--a 11.14/126 pass--the sedan competed at legendary lanes of asphalt and concrete such as Cotati, Half Moon Bay, and Fremont. At these coastal California drag strips, the dense, cool air helped create the spectacle of Max Wedge domination.
Sometime after a build date of February 17, 1964, Manessis took delivery of his Dodge 330 and began to campaign the aluminum-paneled sedan. With its hinged aluminum hood; dual hump aluminum hoodscoop; aluminum fenders; aluminum bumper brackets; and acid-dipped components including the front bumper, doors and decklid, all seemed well. But looming at the Daytona Speedweeks in February 1964 and then on the April '64 cover of Hot Rod Magazine was Chrysler's new "Modern Hemi."
