Boss 429 1st one Built – 1969
Stock Number  – 1801859 Year / Make / Model  – 1969 Boss 429 - 1st one built! Exterior Color  – Black Interior Color  – Black Manufacture  – Acme Estimated Release Date  – October 2022 Production Number  – 750 Scale  –  1:18   On Wednesday, January 15, 1969, employees at Kar-Kraft's Brighton, Michigan, facility declared it would be a champagne-popping kind of day, and rightly so. Job 1, the name given to the first factory production Boss 429 Mustang to traverse the assembly line at one of Ford's skunkworks facilities, had finally made the physical transformation from Mustang Sports Roof to homologation requirement. With Chrysler and FoMoCo punching and counterpunching on the high ovals, Ford took another stab at aero war supremacy in NASCAR with the introduction of the 429 semi-hemi powerplant. Kar-Kraft owner Nick Hartman had submitted a bid to Ford Motor Company to produce the Boss 429 Mustangs, a necessary tool in order to reach the homologation requirements set by NASCAR. Hartman had known Chuck Mountain and Ed Hull (who were instrumental in the GT40 project) from his years of sports car road racing and had a foot in the door for submitting the bid. Through these contacts and the right bid, he secured the right to produce the Boss Mustangs. In total, 859 1969 Boss 429 Mustangs would travel down the lines at Kar-Kraft, meeting (and exceeding) the 500-unit threshold NASCAR had implemented.   Special Offer!! His expertise in developing his cars and parts, as well as his willingness to share his knowledge, led him to work with Nickey Chevrolet, Yenko Chevrolet, and eventually build his own COPO Camaros. It may be hard to believe for some drivers, but it's already been 50 years since Dodge introduced the iconic first-generation Challenger.     In the hierarchy of the street, circa 1970, there were the Big Dogs and then there was everyone else. Having 400 cubic inches under the hood didn’t cut it anymore at the Stoplight Grand Prix. The name of the game was horsepower and the more grunt the better, and more grunt meant more cubic inches and more horsepower. The old standard “there’s no replacement for displacement” was never truer in 1970, and sitting atop the muscle car food chain was Chevrolet’s SS Chevelle. Not just the garden variety, 360 horsepower SS454, but the King Kong of the Bow Tie brigade, designated RPO Z15. Checking off this option delivered a 450 horsepower, 454 cubic inch solid lifter behemoth that cranked out 500 lbs.-ft. of torque and bludgeoned any challengers for its title King of the Streets.
