Dodge Ramp Truck – “Motown Missile” – 1970

Note:  The Motown Missile Car shown in the photos is not included, but Acme is offering it separately! . The Motown Missile itself is a testament to Chrysler’s ambition. Built as a factory test bed by some of the best engineers, including the famous Tom Hoover, it was used to trial new concepts before passing them down to legendary racers like Sox & Martin. The car’s original purpose was clear, break new ground, and push what was technically possible. One aspect of the Motown Missile that separated it from all other Pro Stock cars at the time was the connection it had with the Chrysler NASA Rocket Development Division (located in Huntsville, AL) that incorporated all kinds of aerospace technology, in the way of exotic testing equipment and DAQ (data acquisition) for when the car was traveling down the race track. While it was a full-on racecar, it actually doubled as a test and development vehicle. In 1971 driver Don Carlton joined the team and drove the Motown Missile in the '71 Grand nationals and set an all-time low et at 9.48 and 146.10 mph. This is the Ramp Truck used to haul the car! . . " In 2007, this car was unveiled at SEMA, and drew a crowd every time the key went to the run position. "It's just something about the X-pipe Boom Tube exhaust and the individual throttle bodies that give it a wild sound," Ben Grasso says. "This car started with a dream that the ugly duckling of Mopars could become something spectacular," "I wanted to build a car like Dodge would have if the consideration of mass production and government interjection didn't exist, and I think I've achieved that," Ben says proudly. Most people start a shop with the intention of building supercars like this one. Ben had it a little backward, or forward, depending on how you look at it. The car had been bounced around friends' houses for storage for over seven years when Ben decided to tackle this build. Originally wearing purple paint, this Coronet inspired the name and theme of his new business, Plum Floored Creations. He specializes in Mopar muscle rejuvenated with modern powerplants, suspensions, and electronics. Beyond all the bells and whistles installed throughout the engine bay, interior, and undercarriage, the most impressive modifications lie beneath the paint. Ben started off with a stock-bodied car, that needed a little help. The guys from Year One came to the rescue with fresh quarter-panels, a rear window filler, and trunk floor. This sheetmetal freshening gave Ben a clear vision of the car's potential. Coupled with Plum Floored Creations, Paintshop101 gave the Super Bee a whole new flair with a relocated and heightened hood scoop, Coronet R/T-inspired side scoops, and most striking, the modified front fascia. . The 1970 Oldsmobile 442 is a second generation model that raised the bar in the muscle car horsepower race of the day. Manufacturers were all scrambling to climb to the top of the horsepower mountain. The W30 package was Oldsmobile's ultimate high-performance offering and a formidable machine for its day. From 1969-1972, Oldsmobile used a mad scientist named Dr. Oldsmobile to promote it's high performance W Machine muscle cars. This Drag Outlaw 442 W30 is a throwback to those wild and crazy Dr. Olds days. The campaign is remembered for its "monster movie" aesthetic and helped establish Oldsmobile's performance image during the muscle car era! .
