Donald Glenn "Don" Garlits (born January 14, 1932, Tampa, Florida) is an American drag racing driver and automotive engineer and is considered the father of drag racing. He is known as "Big Daddy" to drag racing fans around the world. Always a pioneer in the field of drag racing, he perfected the rear-engine "top fuel dragster design", an innovation motivated by the loss of part of his foot in a dragster accident. This design was notably safer, since it put most of the fuel processing and rotating parts of the dragster behind the driver. The driver was placed in "clear air," in front of nearly all the mechanical components, thus protecting the driver and allowing him to activate a variety of safety equipment in the event of catastrophic mechanical failure or a fire. Garlits was also an early promoter of the full-body, fire-resistant driver's suit - complete with socks and gloves, often branded as Nomex. Garlits was the first drag racer to officially surpass the 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, and 270 miles per hour marks in the quarter mile; he was also the first to top 200 in the 1/8 mile. He has been inducted into several Halls of Fame and has won many awards during his career. . Special Offer!! Order this item and we will include a $10.00 Credit good towards any future purchase! . In February 1968, Chrysler took the performance philosophy of “small car, big engine” to whole a new level. The company told Dodge dealerships across the country that it would sell race-ready factory-built dragsters using the smallest coupe in the fleet, the Dodge Dart. The small car would be equipped with the biggest motor in the Mopar arsenal, and the result was the remarkable Super Stock Dodge Dart. A purpose-built dragster strictly for the track Gene "the Snowman" Snow will remain in the history books as the first Funny Car driver to break the 200-mph barrier with a 200.88 clocking on Aug. 17, 1968, and the first Top Fuel driver to break the four-second barrier at an NHRA national event, Oct. 6, 1988. . " In 2007, this car was unveiled at SEMA, and drew a crowd every time the key went to the run position. "It's just something about the X-pipe Boom Tube exhaust and the individual throttle bodies that give it a wild sound," Ben Grasso says. "This car started with a dream that the ugly duckling of Mopars could become something spectacular," "I wanted to build a car like Dodge would have if the consideration of mass production and government interjection didn't exist, and I think I've achieved that," Ben says proudly. Most people start a shop with the intention of building supercars like this one. Ben had it a little backward, or forward, depending on how you look at it. The car had been bounced around friends' houses for storage for over seven years when Ben decided to tackle this build. Originally wearing purple paint, this Coronet inspired the name and theme of his new business, Plum Floored Creations. He specializes in Mopar muscle rejuvenated with modern powerplants, suspensions, and electronics. Beyond all the bells and whistles installed throughout the engine bay, interior, and undercarriage, the most impressive modifications lie beneath the paint. Ben started off with a stock-bodied car, that needed a little help. The guys from Year One came to the rescue with fresh quarter-panels, a rear window filler, and trunk floor. This sheetmetal freshening gave Ben a clear vision of the car's potential. Coupled with Plum Floored Creations, Paintshop101 gave the Super Bee a whole new flair with a relocated and heightened hood scoop, Coronet R/T-inspired side scoops, and most striking, the modified front fascia. . In 1966, Jenkins’ decided to independently run a Chevrolet of his own, and developed an engine package that made him a stand out in racing circles. Without the help of factory support, Jenkins developed his first Grumpy’s Toy: a Chevy II with a 327 cubic-inch engine. His efforts caught the eye of Chevrolet corporate, and this led to him being added to Chevrolet’s “sponsored” team in 1967. Jenkins won only 13 NHRA national events as a driver, but was still voted the eighth best of all-time when the NHRA held its 50th anniversary in 2001, such is his importance as an engine and car builder. Inducted into every hall of fame and bestowed with every honor possible for a drag racer, Grumpy continues to see his influence on the stock classes today and his Jenkins Competition, the tuning shop he opened in the 1950s, remains in business. In the winter of 1970, a Mr. Wayne Hagen caught wind of some rattling news: the Judge was retiring. In this case, no political figure was stepping down but rather Pontiac’s sportster of the same name. “He wanted one his whole life but couldn’t swing it financially,’ recalls his wife, Mary. “Realizing this would be his last chance to get one, he figured he should get moving.” . In April of 1971, the lovebirds swung by Hansord Pontiac, in Minneapolis, only to be greeted with a terrible announcement: they were too late. “The sales staff said sadly we had missed the boat in getting in an order,’ recalls Mary. Officially, the Judge was discontinued in February and here it was nearly a month later. “We told them we weren’t interested anymore and started to leave,’ said Mary. “Before we could get to the door, they said they would call up Pontiac and ask if they’ll make one more.” . Further pressing their luck, the Hagens had a special request: the car needed to be painted in their favorite color, Orbit Orange. “We had to have one in that color, we just loved it,’ gushed Mary. Easier said than done, that vibrant hue was no longer available for the 1971 model year. Still, eager for a sale, the dealership put in a special paint request to make it happen. . Unearthed for the first time in years, the Judge sees daylight. As of now, the vehicle shows to be the last GTO Judge produced in 1971. .

"Ohio" George Montgomery was one of the first superstars in NHRA Drag Racing history.  Montgomery won the prestigious U.S. Nationals four times (1959, 1960, 1963, and 1969) and set numerous speed and e.t. records in several cars during his illustrious driving career. He was a pioneer, innovator, and mechanical genius who often fabricated his own parts, starting as far back as the 1950s. In 1966, "Ohio George" Montgomery joined the Ford Racing team and helped develop and test the new 427ci SOHC Hemi engine. In 1967, Ford convinced him to switch to a Mustang body that could be found in their dealerships—as the saying goes, "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday." Montgomery agreed, and parked the 1933 Willys in favor of the more aerodynamic 1967 Mustang body, which had a 6-71-blown 427ci SOHC Ford engine between the framerails. The 'Stang set five NHRA national records and won Super Eliminator at the 1969 Spring Nationals in Dallas. Two years later, Montgomery debuted the Mr. Gasket Gasser at the 1969 U.S. Nationals. This was a one-off 1969 Mustang Mach 1 handcrafted fiberglass body from the Ford Drag Racing program and was powered by a twin-turbocharged Boss 429 engine. The car set numerous speed and e.t. records and won Super Eliminator at the 1969 U.S. Nationals, as well as victories at the 1973 and 1974 Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida. . Special Offer!!
