They were known by their special "WT" identification code number. The total production number of these special “WT” paint cars was just 159 across all six paint variations. These cars were sold as part of Ford's "Summer Sales Promotion". The “WT” cars were offered on both the GT500KR and GT350 models and were only available with black or saddle interiors. The rarity of these cars is increased because they could not be ordered from Shelby. To get your hands on one of these cars, your Shelby dealer had to track down the “WT” car you were after throughout the Shelby dealer network. Famed American automotive designer, racing driver and entrepreneur Carroll Shelby partnered with Ford to build Mustang-based performance cars. The result of their collaboration was the Shelby GT350 in 1965. By 1968, the car had evolved to the GT500 and would see the first convertible built in the series. This ’68 Shelby GT500 is also the more limited KR, which stood for “King of the Road”, including a decked out 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet V8. . While Shelby was diving deep into the the development of the GT40 for LeMans, he also had his sights on Ford's Mustangs. He wanted to turn Ford's secretary sports car into a track champion. So, Ford sent him three white K-code 1965 Mustangs. Serial number 5R002 would become the very first GT350R prototype and is arguably the most important Mustang in history! 5R002 would have multiple parts tested on it with drivers such as Ken Miles and Bob Bondurant behind the wheel, fenders widened by hand, the famous rear window designed by Peter Brock that let air escape, reverse hood scoop, and so much more! 5R002, aka the "Flying Mustang", would win its first race it ever entered on February 14,1965 with Ken Miles piloting the car to victory. Miles and others would compile 10 wins with 5R002 throughout the season with Jerry Titus capturing the SCCA B Production Championship for 1965! Unlike many tales, the story of the So-Cal Speed Shop is not one made up by some clever marketing types; it's a true story of friendship, hot rods and the need for speed. The story begins on March 22, 1922, in Los Angeles, California, with the birth of Alex Xydias. Although his father was a prominent producer of silent movies, Alex's childhood was fairly normal, and like most young boys, he naturally gravitated towards automobiles. His first hot rod, a '29 Ford roadster with a milled head and a chopped flywheel, which he drove to Fairfax High School, was paid for with part-time earnings. However, his life, like that of so many young men, was about to change when, in 1942, he joined the Army Air Corps, serving as a B-17 engineer. On the day of his discharge-March 3, 1946-using some borrowed money, Alex opened the first So-Cal Speed Shop on Olive Avenue in Burbank. Over the following decades, So-Cal Speed Shop would build some of the most iconic hot rods for many of the most notable collectors on the planet. Their innovation and attention to detail set the bar in the hot rod industry. Don Yenko personally signed off on the sale’s contract. The 1969 Yenko Camaro was a limited production vehicle equipped from the factory with COPO 9561, a special performance package including a L72 427/425hp engine, special ducted hood, dual exhaust system, increased cooling capacity and special suspension. This car is one of the most papered vehicle and it has Don Yenko’s name on the documentation including the original dealer package file from Yenko Chevrolet signed off by Don Yenko. .
