Moss won 212 races as a professional and drove all the top machines during the peak of his career. Moss was the winner of the British Grand Prix as well as races in Monaco, Argentina, Australia, South Africa, and the United States. He also prevailed at the Mille Miglia 1,000-mile endurance race in 1955 for Mercedes-Benz won the 1954 12 Hours of Sebring. When Moss retired from top-level racing in 1962 following a horrific crash, he never completely walked away from the sport. As vintage racing gained a foothold among the public, Moss was drawn back onto the track. During these forays into vintage racing, Moss had the chance to drive a GT350 at the Monterey Historics meet and that led him to purchase this 1966 Shelby GT350 in 1992. He first raced it at the Targa Tasmania - his wife Susie functioning as his co-driver - and the pair won their class in the B7 for Touring and GT cars over 4000cc race. Following that success, Moss raced the Shelby in vintage events such as Silverstone in 1995 and 1996. He owned and raced this car until 1999. The Moss and Shelby connection with his GT350 was cemented, and personally, when Moss, Carroll Shelby and their wives were guests of honor at a Concours event in Texas. At that meeting, Shelby himself drove the car up on stage. At the time, Shelby said this car would from then on be known as “The Moss car,” and Moss sealed the pact by signing his name inside the trunk.

This is one of the few original 1965 GT 350 "R" models ever produced by Shelby American. The GT350R was the first time an American manufacturer offered a strictly-for-racing competition model which could be purchased from a dealer and which would require nothing after delivery. These cars could literally be delivered directly to the track and raced the way they came off the transport. This particular "R" model was 1 of 2 sponsored by Dockery Ford of Morristown, N.J. for the 1966 season. The Dockery dealership was very involved in racing and wanted a big name driver for their car. So why not go for gold and hire Mark Donahue? Mark entered Dockery's GT350R in nine races during the 1966 season and notched four victories!

They went hand-in-hand in the early days of motorsports, with Junior Johnson being perhaps one of the more famous moonshiners, thanks to the numerous NASCAR publications that make mention of his storied past. However, not all retired bootleggers turned to ovals for a speed fix when their whisky hauling days came to a close. Among them is Lamar "Bunky" Bobo. His choice of a side occupation was shut down thanks to Georgia's State Revenuers' laws. In the meantime, a 1940 Willy's coupe had been purchased by Frank Groves, a local drag racer, in 1964, for $225. The goal was to turn the Willys into an A/gasser for use at the local quarter-mile. Low on funds, the project stalled with no running gear for the coupe. It wasn't long before a deal was struck between the two men, and they resumed the drag project as partners. By the time the Hemi Hurricane Willys was completed, NASCAR Drag Racing was big in the South, the biggest event being the Winter Nationals at Daytona: NASCAR did sanction drag racing in the mid to late 1960s, along with other organizations such as Standard 1320, NADS, UDRA, and IHRA--all of which ran under the same rules as NHRA or AHRA, or a combination of the two. During the 1966 Winter Nationals, Bunky won his class in the Willys, but blew the engine during the final run. The team low on funds, Frank left the team and the car behind. Bunky returned for the 1967 running, surpassing the A/G class by winning the competition eliminator in a single run.   Special Offer!!
